jim ladd has brought that spirit with him where ever he's DJ'd since the mighty MET's demise. the feel of his show has always been,"the corporate suits have gone home for the night. let's see what we can get away with!"
the rest of the day,KLOS is pretty much as it's always been, but when jim takes over all the rules go out the window.

.....and he doesn't play "stairway to heaven" every night (if ever)!

KMET ROCKED back in the day. KLOS, I've often thought, should changed their call letters to KZEP: you know, all Zeppelin, all the time...

back in the days of "underground/progressive" radio (late 1960s- the mid-1980s) jim ladd was the premiere dj in southern california on the legendary 94.7 KMET. his show had no playlists to follow, just jim playing what he wanted. those days may be gone, but jim is still here on KLOS. in this era of pre-packaged,sterilized radio (jack fm comes to mind),jim's show is a breath of fresh air as well as a blast from the past. just last week, for example, someone requested the grateful dead, and jim ended up playing 45 minutes worth! try that on for size "jack". 95.5 KLOS in los angeles is finally streaming jim ladd's show 5 nights a week! so now you can hear him do sets of songs on more than just one subject as he had been doing the last 2 years on fridays. wednesday nights are especially good when he devotes the last hour of the show to a segment he calls "headsets", which is designed to be listened to in headphones. he has his lighter moments, too (working at KMET with dr.d for years had something to do with that,no doubt). it's not out of the ordinary to hear monty python, bonzo dog, national lampoon and others. if you're a myspace member, you can watch (and participate) as people listening post images to go along with the show on his myspace page , www.myspace.com/jimladd and also post requests (as well as calling them in to (800) 955-KLOS). jim's really excited about finally being able to bring his show to a worldwide audience,so expect him to go all out to have people make it "appointment listening". the show airs 8pm-1am pacific time. the picture above is from may 2006 when he received a star on the hollywood walk of fame. so if you haven't had the chance to hear him on a friday, now there's no excuse! you have to sign up on the KLOS website in order to hear the live stream, but it only takes 2 minutes. go to www.955klos.com and click the "listen live" button, and it'll bring up the register window. here's a mini KLOS history lesson. KMET and KLOS were rivals for most of the 70s and 80s. they were right next to each other on the radio dial,in fact. then metromedia turned KMET into a muzac station in the mid-80s (R.I.P.). KLOS continues to thrive in an ever narrowing market, and a lot of the old "mighty MET" djs have found a new home there. here's more... (btw i prefer stern to mark and brian)
