Here it is - www.madmusic.com/playlist.aspx?Show=MMP-30

This is the first podcast in quite a while that's not explicit. If you go for that sort of thing.

Well, that's that. The punishing schedule of medical/dental appointments is over - for this week, anyway. Uncle Stavro can sleep for the rest of the week.

Before me sits a completed podcast script & playlist. Might as well get started...

It's set to record. I only wish I was. How many fillings can one get in a single month, anyway?

"MMP-30 with 'guest host' Tyro Arrgula - www.madmusic.com/madspace.aspx?id=58636 "

Coming this week.

So would I. Most of it's crap, anyway. I've things to do. Doctor's appointments, podcasts to make. Mousetraps to empty. Spring is here and the little bastards are getting fierce. They're determined to chew up what little wardrobe I have left. Those fuzzy suckers must die. And their nests have to be removed from inside my riding mower as well as from in the house.

Right after I sort out this podcast. I've put it off too long.

Thank you for the sentiment, Gary.

I hope I can live up to it. Actually, let's start slow - I hope I can live. Let's leave it at that. That's no gimme these days.

Meanwhile, with the completion of the Easter show, this podcast, put off so many times can finally be made this upcoming week. As always, songs can be requested for it, but they have to be CC songs. Not many people other than the artists who make them, Dr. Demento, Wayne and I are familiar with these songs, making requests an exercise in futility.

Requests or not, there's still going to be a show. It would be nice if Wayne made it instead of me for once, but you can't have everything (where would you put it?). That would be a good show name...oh, wait...

Stavro, Bless you and good Karma to you through this.

You and Capt. Wayne continue to be awesome, and you have my total respect.

Thanks for doing so much for all us D fans and artists.

Something else happened. I threw my shoulder out fighting recent basement flooding lifting pumps & hoses. Almost makes me wish I had someone else living with me...almost. That would be a horror - mostly for the other poor sucker.

This is the sort of pain you wish on Vladimir Putin, Nazi war criminals (assuming there are any left), child molesters, etc. I was right in the middle of spring cleaning (Spring - yeah, right. When?) when this latest annoyance occurred.

On top of that, last week, my GP demanded I gain 15 pounds. Christ, first I had to lose 55 last year to defeat diabetes and now I have to gain some of it back?! I finally look good again...well, for someone my age...relatively speaking. How did John Grant put it? "Make up your mind, Dr. Frankenstein."

But then, I'm sitting here wearing the size 33/34 Levis I wore in high school when last year at this time, I was seriously contemplating buying a pair of 42s because my 40s were getting tight, so he may have something there. Or not. I think his cranium is stuffed with chicken vindaloo - Except for the sciatica and shoulder injury (and the unpleasantness last week), I'm doing ok.

As for this episode, as I mentioned before, it'll get made when it's physically possible to make it. Which sure as hell isn't now. I won't ask for assistance again; I'm going to do it my damn self. ...Though it would be very nice if...

You know, Wayne told me a while back that he had an interest in making podcasts again and circumstance gave him more free time now to do it. Perhaps it's just the badly needed painkillers talking, but this would be a golden opportunity for him to put his microphone where his mouth is and crank out his own conceptualization of MMP-30. It can't be any worse than what I had put together.

Thanks, guys. This is one of those inescapable chronic things that just happen sometimes.

As for the show, the only thing that registers in my brain right now is my specialist's orders about 'rest & low impact activities'. I've a large backlog of household tasks I've been putting off. This weekend would be a good time to do them.

This podcast is on hold until I can brain again...but...there's a completed show that I can still just record. That's a low impact, non-taxing activity. Finishing that damn Xmas special. Only 2 segments left. There's a chance I can finally finish it before April arrives. Hmm, better not tack a time frame on this. I was commanded to rest and they meant it this time.

After all that, MMP-30...as long as nothing else happens.

All right. It all comes from this. The real question of the series was, "Is it better to be a cheap bastard by bypassing unionized cartoonist labor and making your cartoon in Spain or the Far East? Since Count Duckula has passed into relative obscurity known only to maniacs like us, we seem to have our answer now, don't we?

Danger Mouse, the show that spawned Duckula, is still the superior show. But not by all that much if the writing's any indication.

Remember, you can still request songs for this podcast as long as it's CC. It's just not all that easy. I'd just like someone to give it a shot every now & again.

Yes I was a fan of the Count Duckula show. I use him as my avatar because I couldn't think of any other cartoon character I relate to.
Gilbert and Sullivan borrowed tunes and rewrote the words for their operettas. Love the British humour! Thanks for the challenge Stavro!

FYI: I have been posting on Facebook about new shows being available to listen to.

BZZZZT! Wrong again. Besides, I'm not drunk. I can stand up perfectly well at 2 in the morning chuck full of Ambien. It's just that the room won't stop moving. This is an indication that I need to go to bed.

Tomorrow morning when I'm asleep, perhaps one of you could message Wayne that I need a new spreadsheet of CC podcastables for the spring. Haven't had a new one since early November. I can't seem to get through to him. Or rather, he doesn't answer. Perhaps he'll respond to one of you. While you're at it, tell him to make better use of the site's Facebook wall. Young people comprehend these things better than I do anyway.

Here's one last hint -Choose "Count Duckula Episodes" for $1000

In this context, the title comes not from the song but from something amusing on TV (it was a long time ago) and thoroughly obscure (no fun otherwise) that used the song in an entirely different way. The British are particularly fond of using music this way. Even when they make their TV show in Spain to save money.

Close. I googled it afterward, and per Wikipedia, the chorus of Drunken Sailor goes "Hooray and up she rises (3x) early in the morning"

After a good rest, I plan to get on with this show now that the St. Patrick's Day show is complete. Remember, no more themes for the podcasts. This will ensure they get made on time. Possibly sooner.

If you've any fabulous suggestions, now's the time. Without themes, CC requests are that much easier. 10 points to anyone who can spot the title's pop culture reference without googling it.

My problem with the CC restriction is my songs are BMI but I don't care if you play them so don't you think if you just got permission it won't matter if they are CC or not.

It's only now occurred to me that it's too damn difficult to have a CC restricted show AND have a main theme weighing down the show's assembly process. Themes with no restrictions are fun; with CC, they're a nightmare.

Incredibly, it took me this long to suss that little chunk of info. So from this point forward, The Mad Music Podcast will have no themes and only very rarely have mini-themes (3 songs max) - except on holidays, of course. Santa will still shove burning coals up your ass at the appropriate time of year. More realistically, MMS and not podcasts will be made for holidays, anyway.

Without the restriction of a theme, I can do more with the CC songs. For example, ignore them. Wayne recently sent me the spreadsheet I asked for listing all the songs in the archive he had acquired because the copyright had run out and were now public domain. I could easily make something out of that - starting with podcast 29; why wait?

The one thing that won't change will be the crazy show titles. If I have to take away a unique show factor, I'll make another one more unique. Because balance is a good thing.

Now to cut the crap. The main reason I'm doing this? So I can make the damn things on time every time without having to go through that "theme vs. CC restriction" crap every week. It was driving me nuts. ...Well, more nuts.

So here's the plan: MMP-29 by Tuesday, then the completion of Mad Music Special 182 (It's still winter - boy, is it ever - so it won't kill you to listen to the completed show). After that, the annual St. Patrick's Day show. How much time I have then will determine which kind of show it will be.

After all that...MMP-30.
