You know how this works. If I don't start these things now, I'll never get them all in when the actual season arrives. Last month, my PC got screwed up, so I wasn't able to complete Halloween III.
It turned out I just needed an extremely hard to find display driver to go with the graphics card updates I got on the 22nd. It's not like the bastards made that easy by, you know...telling me or anything. Hopefully, it's sorted out now & I can actually get on with making these shows.
Even though the banner's not up yet, you can listen to Xmas dementia on the site's stream right now.
“A towel, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy]
says, is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar
hitchhiker can have. Partly it has great practical value. You can wrap
it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan
Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of
Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapors; you can sleep under it
beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon;
use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for
use in hand-to-hand-combat; wrap it round your head to ward off noxious
fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a
mind-boggingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it
can't see you); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress
signal, and of course dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be
clean enough.”
It's become a bit traditional to get all the irreverence out of the way in the first couple of Xmas shows. It's like that with Halloween as well, if you heard those shows this year. No, it won't be pretty, but it will be both nasty and funny - with any luck. The later shows ease up a bit & zonk you with the classics and are generally SFW...sometimes.
Is this by design? You bet your ass it is. There are listeners who want irreverence (& sometimes outright blasphemy) & others who just want shows that establish a mood. Of course, that's what the 24/7 stream is for, but the stream is entirely random - there are too many Xmas songs for it not to be. But some still want an actual DJ to program a show that delivers that mood. Whatever floats your coffin, as Count Aarhus would say.
This first show is scheduled for a 12/4 posting, but since Xmas in on a Monday this year, shows may be posted a day early.
