In Soviet Massachusetts, football kicks you!

That's what happened. As Tyro said, I went to the Patriots victory parade last Tuesday and quickly realized that "old/out of shape + excessive walking around = maximum discomfort." The pitiful part was that someone older than me had to drive. The next day, I met the world's worst "medical professional." Lots of swearing involved there....

Last week fried me until I was too tired/sore to do anything. This week - segment 2 of MMH-231. It's done, so at the first moment that I don't feel like hell, it gets recorded.

Next week, Tyro's new podcast. That's done as well. Who knows? It might be posted first...but that's not the plan.

So are you going to make the second segment of show 231?

Tyro Arrgula   Offline  -  Editor  -  02-03-19 01:34 PM  -  5 years ago

Uncle Stavro was being a bit optimistic about this show considering what those hospital scumbags put him through last week. Add the shoveling and the persistent below zero weather and you've got one thoroughly exhausted old guy.

He says he needs to rest rather badly this weekend and mentioned something about wanting to see something called the "Superb Owl". I don't see what's so superb about owls. Like us vampires, they only come out at night, so how are non-vampires supposed to see them?

Must be an American thing.

Show 231 is 43 minutes long or so and makes a fine standalone show, but uncle insists on making the second half before doing anything else. It's complete and it'll get recorded "when he's feeling up to it" as he always says.

Both of those would work. Remind me of them in June when I make the thing...

Meanwhile, after the medical scheduling idiocy (lots of shouting and swearing) and the air conditioned deep freeze outside this week, I've finished the script rewrite and can record the second half of this show this weekend - if my crappy microphone wants to cooperate and not crackle constantly, ruining the recordings.

Ya, know what how about this for the missing Christmas show: I Want a Hippopotamus for christmas by Captain and Tenille.

---
Halfshell:

I have some Christmas in July songs and stand ups.

Or even one like this: Grandma Got Blown Up In The Outhouse.

Stavro Arrgolus:

That's
the plan. Other half of MMH-231 next week. Tyro's podcast after that.
I'm making a new, adjusted playlist for the podcast now. I've a lot of
new FuMP to catch up on.

The approaching storm is now likely to be primarily an ice storm...and that's never good. Finishing this show may take a while...

As for MMS-223 (Xmas IV, 2017), it's likely to be the "Xmas in July" show this year, since no one will want to listen to a Xmas show when it's not Xmas or Xmas in July. Meanwhile, I'll have 6 months to plan what Celestra will play on the show so none of the songs from the 3 previous 2017 Xmas shows get copied. That's the hard part.

Once you finish this show, you might want to make the Podcast that your vampire son, wants to make, follow by the missing Christmas show.

Ice storms + torrential rain on frozen ground = flooded basements. Work work work.

All this = delayed shows.

The first half is posted - www.madmusic.com/playlist.aspx?Show=MMS-231

The second half posting will depend on how much snow shoveling I have to do in the near future. If we're really getting more than a foot of snow, don't count on segment 2 of this show anytime soon. If not, then it arrives next week.

Hmm...

I'm going about this all wrong. Longer shows are just something I can't manage any more within sensible timeframes. It takes me longer and longer to make them due to crappy health and unrealistic expectations.

So it's time to live up to the title of this episode and do what I can with what I have where I am.

I had this idea last year and it seemed to work. Every show would begin as a "Mad Music Moment", a half hour show. Perhaps it's best to make & leave them that way so more shows can be made more often. Consistency & quality over sheer show size.

I'll try this for this winter and see how it goes. Just doing what I can with what I have.

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  01-08-19 10:36 AM  -  5 years ago

I've just found the completed playlist & mp3 folder for this show. Its time stamp on the spreadsheet suggests that I was about to record it when I ran out of time and had to start on the Halloween shows. Since this is complete and the podcast I was planning isn't, I'll make this one first.

It's essentially done, but a few of the tracks on the playlist don't match what's in the incomplete script, so a bit of extra time needs to be put into it. Expect it in around a week and a half.

Seg. 1: That's Not The Way To Get Laid

Seg. 2: May The Forces Of Evil Become Confused On The Way To Your House

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  06-16-18 06:18 PM  -  5 years ago

Way ahead of you. I started rewriting the MMH-225 script the day I posted the podcast since I had used a song from the new show in it. I think I'll use a request to replace it.

I also messed up the audio mixing since I had to relearn the Audacity settings...again, so more care will be taken with this show. MMH-225 will also be posted one segment at a time as they're completed. I have no doctor appointments next week, so....

And since third party players still cut off the last 2-3 minutes of every segment for no good reason (if you really want to help, email Wayne and try to get him to fix that), I need to add a 3 minute "tiresome gap" to seg 1 and a bonus track to seg. 2 to make up for it. Or you can hear the whole thing on the site's player.

This weekend, complete yard work. Next week, record at least one segment of this show, if not both. When it's all posted, a 4th of July show with a segment of requests to begin it will be made OR if I'm not feeling up to it, the next show will involve the completion of H'ween and Xmas shows I didn't finish last year.

We'll have Christmas AND Halloween in July.

So Stavro, now that you done a podcast, you might want to do an Madmusic show, followed by making those missing madmusic shows.

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  06-06-18 09:56 PM  -  5 years ago

As I keep saying, the war against my backyard comes first. I let it go 3 years as I haven't been well and now I'm sick of looking at it and am determined to finish the yard work before anything else. I'm currently trimming the overgrown hedges. It's not really the hedges that are the problem; it's the vines growing through them that are causing all this delay.

That's what I did today. Trim hedges, rip out vines, continue trimming. And I've more than an acre of this crap to deal with. It's exhausting.

As for the show itself, I've decided on the bgm, the snarky opening, what sort of bad language gets used - that sort of thing. All that remains is to choose a bonus track for the ending that confuses the hell out of you.

Even if Wayne fixes the bug that cuts out the last 3 minutes of a segment when using third party players, I'm leaning toward keeping the bonus track - originally added to compensate for that bug since the legal bit at the end got cut out.

The plan remains the same. Yard work first, show afterward.

It has been 16 days, is the show ready yet,

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  05-21-18 05:50 PM  -  5 years ago

And now, for no particular reason, a couple of rather meaningless particulars about the show, namely, the segment titles.

Seg. 1:  That's Not The Way To Get Laid

Seg. 2:  May The Forces of Evil Become Confused on the Way to Your House

I never seem to be satisfied with the way things are. There's always a weirder segment title or a crazier show feature to try. As stated before, this show would be done if all the yard work wasn't so exhausting. I let the yard go to pot (figuratively) for so long...
Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  05-12-18 11:16 AM  -  5 years ago

The "Epic Spring Cleaning" is still going on. The completed shows get recorded when it's over. After a long illness, I'm trying to sort out decades of house repair that I couldn't do before now. And the onset of the much despised 'lawn care season' isn't helping.

Realistically, you're better off watching for MMP-51 than this show. Since it's an iTunes podcast, only one segment and already assembled, that one's likely to get recorded first. If I get a few hours of non-exhaustion caused by the cleanup (ever try to replace a 53 year old toilet?), I might just try to sneak it in.

But don't hold your breath. It'll be posted without announcement since I make shows when I feel up to it; you'll never see it coming.

So did you, finish making the new show

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  04-22-18 12:28 PM  -  5 years ago

Of course it's ready. It's been ready for months. All I have to do is choose the bgm and record it...and maybe update the script a bit.

When I first assembled it, it was still winter, so I was going to go with something heavier, maybe from Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199. It's spring now, so I'm thinking something from GochiUsa will make better seasonal bgm.

The only reason it's not long since posted is that my doctors wanted new cancer tests as it's been a year since the last ones. It's been an interesting few weeks. The last is one is on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, I've felt so good that I noticed the state of this rathole house & I began an Epic Spring Cleaning. Then there are the trees that fell on my lawn during all those nor'easters in March. Ever try being a senior citizen & cut up dead trees? Oh, that's lots of fun...

This is all hilarious, since it's been years since I've felt this good. When my specialists are satisfied, I'll have to rework the script to make it topical again, but it can get made...as long as there's no more damn snow to shovel.

Throughout it all, I've still been editing & moderating the site. I can still do that, at least. There was just a lot on my plate for a while. That stops on Tuesday. I've actually been contemplating which show to make after this one is recorded. I made a really big list of topics long ago, so there'll be no shortage of ideas.

So, it is spring now. Is the new show ready?

Uncle says that little tune sums up all this. You thought the last post was expletive-filled? He can't even post this one himself this time. Every other word would be 'f*ck' if he did. 3 nor'easters just days apart?! Something out there really doesn't want this show to get made. 17 inches of heart attack inducer this time they say.

Uncle's too exhausted from shoveling & smashing the thick ice on the driveway to record. He managed to get in the scriptmaking before the last sh*tstorm though. He just needs to choose the bgm now. Easy...usually.

Maybe he should add "when you can" to the title of this show.

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  03-06-18 07:52 PM  -  6 years ago

Ok, after several days of "no site because of goddamn nor'easter", maybe now I can finally finish the script and record this show.

...Apparently not. There's another one of the f*cking things arriving tonight and this time, instead of washing away the snow, it's going to dump another foot or more of it on us...and we may be without the site for a while again or there'll be power outages. Possibly both.

I suppose I should have expected it. The playlist was completed far too quickly (it's a good mix and will make a great show) and it seems now that everything is trying to stop it from getting recorded.

Or not. I've got a big f*cking news flash for the co*ksucking weather. You're too late. The site is up again and I've got a few hours before the next little gift from Mother Nature F*cker arrives. I have access to the 'show research' page I make scripts with and will finish before we get sh*thammered again.

I'll be too tired from shoveling to make the episode for a while, but it'll be ready to record.

In closing, I'd just like to say - "F*ck winter."

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  02-21-18 10:44 PM  -  6 years ago

I finished the playlist for this 2 days ago - then it became 60, then 70 degrees in the last couple of days, giving me the opportunity to get out and get some very tiring shopping done and taxes paid.

But New England weather is unpredictable and relentless. Today, it was 71 degrees. Tomorrow - snow. A perfect opportunity to stay the hell home, get in some laundry and knock out the script for this show. I already have the playlist & mp3s. I just need to even out the announce times, decide on the bgm, then actually write the script.

Around here, script completion means precisely one thing - Make the damn show now. Because I'll just forget or procrastinate if I don't record it when the script is finalized.

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  02-17-18 12:35 PM  -  6 years ago

Sure, why not?

The holiday show fill-ins are still on the schedule, but I want to get in some new stuff before taking them on. Too much has been happening in the past couple of weeks to do it though. And there's another snowstorm tonight, apparently. More shoveling, more days of total exhaustion, blah blah blah...

Hmm, looks like you aren't going to be working on the Christmas or Halloween shows. Seeing how this show doesn't have any topic, can you play Ahab the Arab by Jo Ann Cambell

"Do What You Can With What You Have Where You Are" - Theodore Roosevelt

Surprise! We're doing this. Podcast 51 came out very strange indeed. I immediately thought (well, not immediately - it was a week ago), "I'm not posting this in the darkest days of February! This is more of a spring show. It's like a 'Spring Surprise', a chocolate that when eaten, steel bolts spring out and pierce both cheeks."

Podcast 51 is perfect to spring on them right after one of the upcoming holidays. The voice is...different - and somewhat unsettling. I really overthought this one. I should just make & post these shows...but that would be boring.

Meanwhile, I'm making this show with a mystery theme. I should really play some requests in the file I have for them now that I have the opportunity with this theme...and that's the only hint you're getting. I'll sort out the details this upcoming week.
