Happy you got another show finished. Keep plugging away. It's nice to see new shows again.

Update:  Why did I actually think the mic would work with the new amp? I think I need some 25' digital optical cable to link the PC & the amp...and I need to figure out how to get the mic working with the new configuration. New show Tuesday at the earliest.

           ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's now just after 4 in the morning, so it's time for a show update.

Like the previous show, it's to be posted on Monday...assuming I can get all the new equipment working (no guarantees - so it might be Tuesday) - and it's ultimately compatible with my ancient components. The speakers & graphic equalizer were bought in 1985, so I'm not confident...

The show will contain the usual ending bonus track designed to cause grievous mental confusion. No fun without that. And who knows? It may be a full hour instead of just a half - but don't count on it.

These "half hour" shows always end up being 40+ minutes anyway.

I don't suppose that it should come as any surprise that these stereo instructions read like...stereo instructions. I haven't rewired my home entertainment system (if you young people still call it that) in at least 13 years if all this dust is any indication. And that was just for the TV. Replacing the system's core is going to take a while...

Meanwhile, I've a plan for the shows. I've somehow gotten the headphones working and, theoretically, I can make a show with just these. Show 225 is complete - script and all - and I can record it whenever...I hope. I'll have a go at it after a rest from the battle to restore my system.

It'll likely sound like crap...or not. I won't be able to tell, but it'll be recorded & posted. Later tonight or sometime tomorrow. Assuming I can get this configuration to work at all.

Epic shopping trip this week. I need to replace the receiver, buy quite a few 25' HDMI cables as my PC & sound system are in different parts of the living room...and maybe a decent microphone.

While I'm at it, I should rip the PC out of the cabinet, crack it open & blow 4-5 years of dust out of it with the...canned air blaster thingy or whatever the hell it's called.

My Asphalt Aardvarks™ just hate dust in their snouts. Ever have something that weighs 2 tons sneeze in your living room? The last thing I need right now are giant holes in my floors.

Besides, my pair of 'varks prefer to eat car bumpers, small children and those annoying religious people who show up at my door. Yeah, they had better pray when several tons of anthropomorphized pavement come charging at them.

Uncle Vyslo loves to hear them scream. My house has no doorbell, so the screaming is the only thing that tells me they're on the property. It's a free alarm system and free amusement at the same time.

Dave AuJus:

Well that just sucks. I hope you find something to take its place. My amp quit about a month ago after 17 years of use. I got a used amp from a thrift store and was back in business in two days. I can't live without my Mad Music!

Feed those dust bunnies to the aardvarks. That will teach them!

Did some troubleshooting. The receiver's amp is fried...and it seems it has no HDMI inputs - or anything else approaching modern. I'd forgotten that. No wonder the show audio's crap. The other receiver's even older than this one.

Screw this; it's time to upgrade to something that was actually made in this century. Until then, no music, no TV or computer sound - not from the main surround sound speakers, anyway - and no internet shows. Not until I sort all this out.

God, the dust bunnies behind there were HUGE. It'll all need a thorough cleaning out as well as component replacement. This is going to take a while...

Unless there's a call for a request show. I'm not expecting one...

And it'll be the Christmas, then the Halloween shows - because of that whole "Xmas in July" thing. After July, the most recent omissions will have priority.

Specifics? MMS-223 (Xmas IV 2017 - number missing from show list) will be the first Xmas show and MMS-219 (Halloween III 2017 - only one segment complete) will be the first H'ween show.

There were no Xmas or any shows made in 2015 (that was a medical thing), but all the holiday show were made & completed in 2016.

That leaves one glaring omission. MMS-157 (Halloween II 2012 - number missing from list). That was the year of the big hernia surgery (7 in. scar less prominent now, but still there), so I only planned 2 H'ween shows. I managed to make just one. That one will be hardest as I'll have to make sure I don't copy songs from show 156 and use no songs made after 2012.

But there's a bigger problem. My receiver gave out when I got up this afternoon; it lasted 15 years - not bad. I have a choice. If it's not the speaker wires causing the amp fail error & the amp really is shorted out (yes, I looked it up on the net), then I can try to replace it with the older receiver in the bedroom (it's older/not as powerful & may not be compatible with the computer) or I can go buy a new one - a better option.

I can make a show right now, which is what I was planning, but there's no way to check the sound quality. I'm sick of my shows sounding like crap because of bad audio equipment. There will either be a decent sounding show or none at all.

The earliest show post will be tomorrow - if I can fix it & not have to replace it. Otherwise, it'll be made when everything's working again. I've got all summer. Besides, you've got 4 other 4th of July shows to hear. What's wrong with them? And you're going to get a new 2 hour Xmas show this month no matter what. Unless you're a kid, you should at least have the patience for that.

Besides, we only have a zillion Xmas shows on the site already and holiday shows are timeless. So there should be no rush to hear MMS-223. It's still coming this month. Just not right away.

After these two shows, there will be the Halloween and Christmas shows, right?

Dave AuJus   Offline  -  Artist & D.J.  -  07-08-18 03:12 PM  -  5 years ago

{Yes, I know you did. I couldn't resist the obvious answer.}

I am sure that He will try His best to complete those shows when He has the time.

I meant the missing shows.

Dave AuJus:

I'm gonna step out on the limb here and say that I am 100% positive that there will be Halloween and Christmas shows after the next two shows and sometime before the end of the year.

Stavro Arrgolus:

This is coming along quite well. The playlists for show 225 and this one are complete.

That one will get posted on Sunday or Monday.

This one is a George Carlin tribute (just a little late) after the 10th anniversary of his death. No, I couldn't ignore the need to hear from him again right now. But it won't be the obvious stuff. He had lots of overlooked material & I'm bringing some of it with this show. It's complete, so there'll be no requests for it.

But in a couple of weeks, there could be a request show. If you really want one...
