Topic: All-Star error

Some of it can't be fixed. Not by Wayne; not by me. I fixed the segment titles for my shows, but I can't fix the ones for Dave's or David Tanny's as I don't know what those titles are. I keep the scripts & playlist spreadsheets for my shows so I could fix mine, but...

Then there are loose songs with no listed artist. They have to be hunted down and their artists determined. A far more useful task than finding things to merge.

Oh good, so the problem is almost solved.

The problem was located. Apparently, if any ID entered didn't precisely match what was in the archive, it got assigned "ID=0" and got linked to everything else with that ID - namely things with no ArtistID like playlist segment titles & uncredited songs & albums.

Wayne added code that now validates everything and if something doesn't match, a big red warning says so before anything gets screwed up. All this means there should be no more page explosions no matter how much someone tries to induce one.

Is it fixed? Not completely. A quick look at some of David Tanny's shows will confirm this - assuming that hasn't been seen to yet. I've been fixing other things and haven't had a look in a while.

The rule still applies. Merging = BAD. Linking = GOOD

So it has been 2 months, did the merge problem get fixed?

"Pretty sure" doesn't cut it in my book. No merges will be performed until the site owner has fixed the problem.

Please continue to be patient.

Ugh, this is taking too long, just merge the pages, i am pretty sure they won't affect the merge problem.

Yes he knows about it.

He will get to it when he gets to it. Please be patient.

Stiff upper lip and all that rot!

UPDATE:

Captain Wayne is now looking into fixing this problem. Yeah!!!!

While we are waiting for Wayne to address the merge problem, you can still report necessary song and artist page changes. Just don't expect anyone to actually make those changes until the problem is fixed. We thank you for pointing them out, but do to circumstances we don't want to risk crashing the website or making things worse.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

(Please take a moment to send Captain Wayne a note reminding him that this still needs to be fixed.)

The song file that has caused this mess is now isolated and a new version uploaded to Weird Al. The original has been renamed and associated to a different artist id. DO NOT mess with it.

You can update your playlists as you feel necessary. Right now they show "-" for song and "---" for artist.

I can't do any more to fix this so it's up to Wayne now.

I don't think I'll have mass amounts of time to fix any of the playlists on my produced shows. One of my shows I found had half of the playlist with the "All-Star" entry. Sorry.

I won't tell you not to. Both of us seem hell-bent on fixing the shows. At this time of year, this is a good decision. In June - not so much.

It should be said that Wayne may decide to implement a backup (it wouldn't be the first time) and everything we're doing will be negated; things will be as they were before this started. Unlikely, but it could happen.

Right now, I'm sorting out the main shows, fixing past mistakes and using a workaround to see that this doesn't happen again. I sneakily added myself as an artist (which I'm definitely NOT) because I can then make pages for my segment & feature intros. By adding my ArtistID (and only that) to every playlist space without one already, I can keep the page explosions from adding stupid things to my show playlists.

This will also work for you. You already have an artist page, so after adding a show feature as a "song",  you can add your ArtistID to show features or even just rows on playlists that state 'part 1' or whatever. After testing it first, I found that Weird Al's "All Star" parody stayed the hell out of my playlists. Maybe it's an admin thing, maybe not. Can't hurt to try.

Just as an addendum to all this. I can't fix Dave's shows as I don't have his playlists. I save all my scripts & playlists in folders just in case stupid crap like this happens...it always seems to, so planning ahead remains a good thing.

On my end, I've gotten rid of "All-Star" by Weird Al on all of the 2018 shows as of November 3rd. I'll do the same for the rest from 2009 and 2011-2017 soon, unless notified to not to. Last thing we need for our respective shows is a time paradox.

That would be a first. Since he started this site, he's had lawyers dogging him every other year, it seems. From the ones Dr. Demento sent in 2005 to the ones who told him to lose every last John Pinette song/album page back in April.

Also, the Google ads pay for the site's expenses, so that part's not a problem. He's also overhauled the site on several occasions, so this is a minor annoyance compared to all that.

Then there's the constant attack the site was under for years by the Russians/Chinese/ Africans. When they weren't injecting malicious script into the pages, they were spamming the boards with counterfeit shoe ads. Wayne had to fix any damage and beef up the site's security and I took malicious pleasure in demolishing the spammers accounts.

The foreign bastards were just using sites like this to get good so they could launch cyberattacks against the government & national infrastructure, which is what they're doing now. We've dealt with far bigger problems than this. And I already know what the problem is right now. The tricky bit is actually getting his attention so he can fix it and that's been going on since 2009.

No, if he gives up entirely, it won't be for a stupid internal bug.

What I'm worry about Wayne says I'm done with these problems and the site and walks away either leave everything as is no updates and no fixes is errors occurs until the site/hosting expires or just shut it down. I've seen this on many many many many messages boards.

Stavro Arrgolus:

Third verse, same as the first.

This latest page explosion was caused by internal coding matters that I can't fix. Wayne needs to sort out the core problem that causes these page merge attempts to do this. Which is easier said than done as I can never get through to him.

If you can message him about this on Facebook - do it. "What do I tell him the problem is", you ask? This:

The problem is the same as before. A random merge attempt causes all the 'various artist', 'unknown artist', and even the unannotated spots on show playlists to merge into whatever page was being merged instead of/along with what was being worked on. Since the numbers were right, it's not a merge error, but something code-related that sucks every page and unfilled show playlist space unaffiliated with an ArtistID into the page being merged.

It's impossible to predict or stop. Wayne needs to determine what causes it and not only fix it, but since this is the same problem as the other page explosions. fix everything else at once...or perhaps you didn't notice that every FuMP album was credited to Schoolhouse Rock. That's part of the mess from the last page explosion. I was done with the site Xmas conversion and was going to try a workaround with the FuMP albums when this happened.

Suffice it to say, there will be no more page merging until this is sorted out, so don't ask.

Until someone gets Wayne's attention, our playlists will remain screwed up by this. Just leave it until he sorts out the larger problem and fix the playlists afterward if they remain damaged.

I can't click on the "All Star (Live 4/3/18)" page as it takes forever to load so I'll have to comment here. Looks like we have another Funky Butts problem on our hands. I tried to fix my recent playlist by getting rid of "All Star (Live 4/3/18)" by "Weird Al" Yankovic from my playlist that replaced my Dumb Newsbreak segment. When I fixed it to Dumb Newsbreak, it then labeled itself as "only known play." Don't know why it did that. So now I'm not taking any chances at fixing my playlists, because I'm afraid the same thing will happen to other listings on my playlists, until everything is fixed.
