Topic: Mad Music Show #235 - Halloween 2019: Madness Takes It's Toll

There wasn't time to make the accompanying MMS (consisting of classics & favorites) this year.

At some point, additions can be made retroactively thanks to a bit of code adjustment by Wayne made last year. Any new show added to this year's Halloween show will be designated as MMS-235-A.

Coming up in segment 3 - the reason the show is called "Madness Takes Its Toll".

It's been going on for the whole show, actually. The vampires and I try to undermine each other's segments because of the whole NSFW thing. But the "vampires" are all me (maybe...possibly), so I'm essentially having an argument with myself on my own show. Now that's madness.

Oh yes, seg. 3... Halloween music is more subjective than any other holiday. Many songs we associate with Halloween have nothing to do with it & don't mention it at all. There are still others that should be Halloween-related but just aren't for some reason. So, just to be a complete bastard, I'm going to play some of these "not quite related to Halloween" tunes for this segment.

And for added effect, this will be the only part of the whole show that's entirely SFW. So there.

Coming up in segment 2...pretty much what happens in seg. 5 of MMS-232 (offensiveness show). Someone gets tired of hearing politics & bad language & reminds us that Halloween isn't about swearing; it's about blood & death & being slowly devoured by zombies...um, maybe the swearing wasn't that bad....

Expect it in a few days.

So...who's up for blood, vampires, political incorrectness and having dozens of angry pirates swear at you?

MMS-235 - starting Sunday night.

It's becoming traditional for young Stavro to pretend to give up the first Halloween show of the year to his vampiric relatives.

We currently have a disagreement about how seg. 1 should go. Celestra still wants her "end of summer" songs and I want a couple of pirate tunes since Stavro didn't have a functioning mic at the time and couldn't make the TLAPD show. Now that Aarhus brought the old man back from Kolding, he says, "Make up your damn minds and keep the f*cking blood off the carpet!" Then he has a nap in his chair.

Update - 6:45 am (CEST): We've sorted it all out. But it's sunrise here in Eisenach; it's time for all "good" vampires to climb back into our coffins. Only Consul Pious has full immunity to the sun. We don't.  - Recording begins tonight. Posting on Sunday - we hope.

And so it begins...

I've been to see three different specialists this week and I am SO not going out again today. This gives me more than enough time to knock down a playlist for one of the 2 hour Halloween shows, so they might arrive sooner rather than later...but then I've said that before and then had my health betray me - so don't hold your breath.

Meanwhile, the vampires are planning Cthulhu knows what. They actually think anything they do can surprise me now. On these Halloween shows, they've left me blood soaked living room carpets, half eaten corpses covered with maggots on said carpets and zombified remains that I had to make dead again with a tire iron.

Sure, it makes for great shows, but the guys who are hired to clean these things up always give me really suspicious looks. Fortunately, I've long since learned not to give a rat's ass. Us old people are just like that.

At any rate, I hope you listen & enjoy the upcoming holiday shows.

Now that Uncle Stavro has solved both his troll and audio problems, he can finally get on with making these Halloween shows.

...Of course, we, his vampiric relatives, have other plans for these shows, but I'm sure Uncle already knows that. Things are about to take a turn for the strange & unexpected. He knows that too, just not precisely what we have planned. He definitely won't like it, but hopefully, you will.

I'll remind Uncle Vyslo about the invention of laptops later and Eli that erasing your troll posts is pointless. Wayne still has a record of everything posted here.

But since you made the effort to retract it, it might not have to be 30 days. Pffffft! Just kidding. Seeing that I didn't hit 'reply' when responding so your troll post wasn't replicated and trying to weasel out of it by erasing it along with the one Dave responded to earlier in the thread is precisely the sort of thing trolls do. After doing that, be content it's only 30 days. Meanwhile, you've made me have to follow through on what I said I'd do.

Now, on to the business at hand. The others covered TLAPD pretty damn well this year on their shows, so I can safely forego my episode knowing that its subject was done right. I've changed the thread title to the one for the first Halloween show of the year.

3 Halloween shows are tentatively scheduled starting between the 10th & the 17th - two full 2-hour shows & one podcast. What order will they come in? Weiß der Geier, as Vyslo would say.

Oh, look who's gone back to trolling.

When the old man gets back from Kolding with the new microphone & sees your latest troll post, you will be suspended for 30 days (minimum) for constantly being a d*ck.

Perhaps you thought you could wait a few weeks between troll posts and he'd forget. BZZT! Wrong.

You were warned about this. Multiple times.

Good news - this show's playlist/script was completed days ago.

Bad news - I can't record it without a functioning microphone. It's only now at 1:30 am (the time I do my best work) when it's time to add the DJ sequences to the main Audacity recording that I find out the mic has crapped out completely.

There's no replacing it with something decent. I had to replace the monitor this month. I've got a new 32" monitor and no way to make shows on it.

For once, this isn't a medical issue. I'm just fine. It's technical...and potentially expensive. The $400+ oil bill I just got isn't helping, either. This will be sorted out when it's financially possible to.

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  09-15-19 05:52 PM  -  4 years ago

What he said. It's on Thursday.

And I'm deciding whether to add a request sequence to the first segment...or even whether there need to be 2 segments. It's not like I'm changing themes for this one. ...And who said these shows had to post on a weekend?

I have a year to do the Python show right. I'm not rushing it. Listeners never seeing it coming is part of the fun. I'd rather have well made Halloween shows. That takes time I won't have if I make a rushed/half-assed Python show.

Avast Matey! Ye need to be checkin' your calender again!

Talk Like A Pirate Day is next Thursday the 19th!

RandomSauce:

Hey Stavro, TLAPD has passed so are you going to do the Monty python 50th anniversary show or just make the TLAPD show?

Hmm...as it turns out, this pirate show will be entirely "vampire-free." Something about 'vampires not being able to cross running water.' Consequently, they never knew all that many pirates. Go figure. So I'm hosting the whole damn thing myself.  The Halloween shows - not so much.

I won't have time to make a proper Monty Python show after this one as there will be too much Halloween going on by then. But since it's the 50th anniversary, I have a year to make it. There will be NO fragmented shows made this year that I'll have to finish later.

So, here's the current show schedule:

TLAPD 2019: Captain Morgan's Revenge

Halloween 1 - 3

MMS-232 Seg. 4 - If Dave makes the Thanksgiving show again this year, you might get seg. 5 too - but don't count on it.

Christmas 1 - 4

Random Podcast - (to make sure the iTunes function still works after Apple changes everything.)

MMS-232 Seg. 5

Yup.

And after the Halloween shows, segment 4?
Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  08-22-19 01:44 PM  -  4 years ago

And I'm back from Celestra's place with a fairly clean bill of health...God, my lawn is deep now, isn't it? And it's soaked. Better let it dry out unless I want to deal with more mower repairs.

Meanwhile, I've returned to a laundry list of house repair chores that no one my age should be tackling. I should bulldoze this dump and buy a new prefab house or something. It'd be considerably cheaper than repairing everything broken in this one.

While I'm buying groceries for the 1st time in almost 3 months (I was gone a while), doing a mountain of laundry and vacuuming an inch or two of dust bunnies off the floor, I can knock out the revised playlist for this show.

This will be a rather noisy episode featuring all things piratey, mateys! But then you knew that was coming anyway. This show will arrive too early (if I feel up to making it at all - no promises) so I can fit in a 2 hour Monty Python 50th anniversary show before the Halloween shows begin.

Also, this show will feature the most horribly NSFW pirate song ever written, so don't say you weren't warned. But unlike MMS-232, all the NSFW in this show will be incidental - mostly. But since we're not in Somalia, these pirates are on ARRR side, so...

Stavro Arrgolus   Offline  -  Editor, MP3  -  08-05-19 07:32 AM  -  4 years ago

Yes, I know. It's going to be more than a month before this is posted. I just wanted to get the show name on the screen before I forgot it again.

Why now? Because I'm making its playlist now. And one for a podcast in the near future. Seg. 4 of MMS-232 now has a complete playlist, but I'm still unhappy about the script. It'll get sorted out soon enough...or not.

I really think I have some good show conceptualizations going here. I have a long term multi-hour project and other shows to make at the same time, so there's always something in production. This way, I might get in one whole show a month instead of one or two a year.

Segment 1 - No Grave But The Sea

Segment 2 - Wenches & Mead
