fiogf49gjkf0d Over the past couple weeks, a few people here have mentioned that they are moving this summer. I'm one of them.
Without going into all the boring details leading up to our decision... by the end of the summer or early fall we plan on moving to Sarnia Ontario. That will take us away from the action in the Toronto area, but it will make it easier to travel to some of the American filk and/or dementia conventions.
Because of the huge difference in house prices between here and there, I should be able to make a significant upgrade and have money left over. (Or a smaller mortgage.) The advantage to me is that I can finally have the space and resources I need to create and record music. The space I have now offers no accoustic advantage, and adding walls and soundproofing would be too difficult and expensive.
It will be nice to finally be able to record songs that don't sound like they were recorded in a sewer.

fiogf49gjkf0d Congrats on the sell Sick!
We're in the other boat - Sheila (my wife) and I just bought a new place. We're keeping the old one to rent out until the market returns, then selling it to pay-down the new mortgage.
Sheila started packing today (closing Sept. 10th) and I also am not looking forward to moving 15 years worth of stuff.
We're moving mid-September as well!

fiogf49gjkf0d We accepted an offer on our house this morning. So if it all goes as planned we'll be moving in the middle of September. We were lucky enough to get it sold just before the usual mid summer real estate slump. Naturally, the experts are forecasting a bigger than usual slump, because of the real estate situation in the U.S. At this point, if we wait a couple months we'd likely be able to buy at a better price..... just like the stock market. Sell high and buy low.
Now comes the hard part..... Getting everything that's still here packed up and ready to go in just six weeks.

fiogf49gjkf0d Rotten Mortgage companies...Best to you, good luck on your 2 part move...

fiogf49gjkf0d I'm not knee deep in anything at the moment. We have already half filled a storage locker and my mother-in-law's basement. We will be knee deep for a couple months because we will have a two part move. Due to a screw up with the mortgage company we will have to establish ourselves into new jobs before we can get a house, so we will be living in the mother-in-law's basement apartment for a while.... At that time we'll be knee deep!

fiogf49gjkf0d I don't envy you, I just finished with the movers on Saturday and well I'm knee deep in boxes as well as very tired. Good luck!!

fiogf49gjkf0d You can pick up one of the 'Canadian' ribbons that Jeff hands out and you might find yourself with carpool buddies for future cons/years.

fiogf49gjkf0d That thought has crossed my mind. Somebody pointed out at a recent house filk that I would now be closer to your area than I would be to Toronto. And someone else suggested my place could be a good place to stop over on the way to cons.

fiogf49gjkf0d Think of coming over to ConClave. We seem to attract a good number those from Sarnia. It's the first weekend in October. www.conclavesf.org.
