Reviews:
A strange song even by this site's standards. Combines lots of familiar Halloween concepts- spooky music, scarecrows, farmers, outhouses, toilets...wait, what? This one may have been even too much for Dr. Demento. He played it a couple of times in '92 and once and '93, but not since. This was on a mix tape for H'ween I made in '92. I always thought its sound evoked both the "Halloween spirit" (whatever that is) and the capacity for strangeness this genre of music that I'm a fan of has.- Stavro Arrgolus
Facts:
  • A hick farmer sings a strange Halloween song about a farmer, a cornfield, an evil scarecrow and, of course, toilets. (Stavro Arrgolus)
  • The second song of the A-side of the Rube Ruben single, "Shmendrick" (Sympathy Records, 1991) (Stavro Arrgolus)
  • Song Lyrics:
Farmer Ned had a seat in the outhouse
Spends nine hours there out of ten
Uses a nibbletless cob for his paper
Looks at the moon through the moon in the door

Be on yer guard late at night
When nature calls an' yer hollow
    The terlet calls fer you!

Outhouse out in the middle of a cornfield
Scarecrow on a stick it sways
Uproots itself and shambles though the cornfield
All the straw, stuff and hay

Be on yer guard late at night
When nature calls an' yer hollow
    The terlet calls fer you!

Rustling - you can hear it
It must be the sound of the corn in the wind
Rustling - I still hear it
It can only be corn that the wind disturbs

    The terlet calls fer you!

No one knows just quite what happened
    Ned just up and disappeared
A scarecrow out on a stick in the crop
Cackles and bears a close resemblance

Be on yer guard late at night
When nature calls an' yer hollow
    The terlet calls fer you!
