Katamari Fortissimo Damacy

I feel it! I feel the cosmos!
Stavro Arrgolus
Katamari Fortissimo Damacy (lit. "Clump Fortissimo Spirit") is the soundtrack to the video game Katamari Damacy. The music in the game was widely hailed as imaginative and original and was considered one of its top selling points. Its eclectic composition featured elements of traditional electronic video game music as well as heavy jazz and samba influences. Most of the tracks were composed by Yu Miyake; many of the tracks feature vocals from popular J-Pop singers such as Yui Asaka from the Sukeban Deka 3 TV series, a vocal sung and written by Charlie Kosei, one of the composers of the Lupin III soundtrack and anime voice actors, including Nobue Matsubara and Ado Mizumori. The final track, "Katamari March Damacy", is a bonus song that was made by reworking an unused song that was not featured in the game. WikipediaStavro Arrgolus

Facts:
  • Many of the songs have lyrics describing the gameplay or generally cheering on the player as they play the game. Often, the songs get stranger than the game as they sing about what it feels like to roll the katamari or to be rolled up by one. And it just gets sillier from there. (Stavro Arrgolus)
  • Naturally, most of the songs on this album that have lyrics are in Japanese, though there's this one lounge tune...
This site doesn't support Unicode, so the lyrics have been entered into the song details pages in Romaji. (Stavro Arrgolus)

The tagline seen above is the catchphrase of the little girl in the videogame who says it every time the prince completes a constellation. It's adorable and creepy at the same time. Did I mention you get to squash her with a giant colorful spiked ball in this game? Well, that's what she gets for suggesting cancer is tasty. "Cancer came scuttling back. So Yummy!" I don't think so.

This album is but the first of the soundtrack CDs for the various incarnations of this game. Many follow, but none quite live up to this one.
