We're moving!

My wife and I have just bought a new house! It's easily 3+ time the size of our current one (currently 1000 sq. ft. and 4 people living here in a 2 bedroom, one bath). The new house is 4 bedroom, 4 bath, full basement, 5 acres of land, whirlpool bath in private master bathroom, good privacy and is just beautiful. We close on September 10th and will be moving over the following 3 weeks (then renting out the old house starting October 1st.

Here's some pics of the new one...

We don't move for 6-7 weeks and my wife has already started packing!

Oh I'm with you on that! That is why we bought now - we got a much nicer place that we could afford at the old prices. This way we're on the good side of the down market (buyer) and will be on the good side of an up market (seller).

Plus we got the new one for $20,000 less than the appraisal even in this down market.

From my point of view, there's a lot to be said for a buyer's market.

We got lucky with the way the sale of our house went, so that left us with a little extra in the bank to put on a new place. And with the lower house prices in our new area combined with the slower market, we are now looking at homes we wouldn't have dreamed of owning just a few years ago.

I hope your market improves, but I also hope it waits until I have my new place.

Sort of - we were going to fix it up to sell it, but with the market down so much we've decided to hang on to it and rent it out until values return.

But I may have retired by then {grin}.

So, I guess renovation on the old double-wide is to sell it, right...?
