Topic: My New Song and Why You Won't Find It On the FuMP

Hi folks!

Please give a listen to my newest parody recording, "The Little Old Lady Loves Pasta Dinners", available on SoundClick and, here at The Mad Music Archives.

You won't find it on the FuMP because about a year ago, I decided not to post my music there anymore.

The reason for that is that, although they claim, in the text written in their 2009 Parsec Awards banner, to "give a big boost to comedy music", only a select few artists are given that boost on their homepage.

The rest, like me, are put in their Sideshow, a "dark corner of the Internet", where very few people ever listen or comment on the songs posted there.

This is a slap in the face for me, considering the fact that I actually am a comedian, musician and vocalist; while some in their select group don't do any of those things very well.

The last straw for me was when one of the "popular" defended an obviously unfunny song posted there and, when I commented that it was a good song but, should have been posted on a serious music website instead, I was told that I didn't appreciate good music.

When unfunny music is defended on a site calling itself the Funny Music Project, while real comedy music is ignored, it's time to move on.

I don't expect my latest song to appear on the Dementia Top 20 for long, if at all, since most of the voting for that is done by folks associated with The FuMP.

I don't mind too much though. I write and record mainly for my own satisfaction, not to win popularity contests.

I may not be popular (and this certainly won't help) but, don't tell me I'm not funny.

I hope you enjoy my song.

Rick

Maybe if we keep it up, we'll inspire others to "get out the vote".

DJ Particle:

Actually that hasn't been as true recently. Most of the people doing the voting right now are either furries or WoWheads, due to a few artists from those communities staging massive "get out the vote" campaigns.

I'll play it in the near future, Rick. I don't have a date for it.

I find your music consistently funny. You should post to the FuMP because the more places that you post your stuff the more exposure you will get. I believe that the DJs on this site are very willing to play stuff that's new and good!

I for one would like the ability for a sideshower to sell their mp3s on the page.

Sorry to hear of your frustration here. I can easily wonder that their are other artists who feel the same way.

Thank you Stavro Arrgolus, I appreciate your support of comedy music.

No Max, I wasn't aware that you could now post songs to the homepage of the FuMP. I have not visited the site in many months, for the reasons stated above.

They have obviously corrected something they finally understood to be wrong and, for that, I owe them an apology for not looking into the situation before complaining about it.

Prior to that, their members had to take a vote to determine whether an artist could be featured on the homepage. I asked them to take that vote and, was told that not enough of them responded to it. Apparently, not enough of them knew who I was, even though I had been commenting on their music and, submitting my own for over two years.

Your song, 'Census' took you from the Sideshow into the spotlight and, that was because Dr. Demento knows funny music, realized the comedy brilliance of that piece and, put it on his show. It should have been featured on the FuMP homepage, where more people would have seen and heard it but, it wasn't.

Again, if they have righted that wrong, I apologize.

You are aware that you can now submit your songs for the front page of The FuMP, right? I've gotten two posted there, already.

Secondly, I would not say that the Sideshow is the dark corner of the web. It is where I got my exposure and attention.

Even Dr. Demento watches the Sideshow.

I've heard your song and think it's just fine - it's one of the 'new' songs that will likely turn up in MMH-163.

This editor doesn't make judgments about who appreciates what. I'm also in the habit of supporting local artists. For me, that means both you and bands like Slant 6 & The Jumpstarts are on my radar.

Good dementia comes from many places and this site will continue to get it from many sources.
