Facts:

  • The running gag in this episode was an opening caption sequence that read, " '....' Lay In Ruins..." and was used over and over before many of the sketches. Since this sequence was the uniting theme of the show and was used in the opening, "The Black Eagle", which consisted of phony movie opening credits and a minute or so of a fake movie to make the viewers think they were watching something besides Python, I always think of this episode as being called "The Black Eagle" rather than "Spam".
