I don't know why, but 2012 seemed like a long year.

Secret of life #67 - With every year you don't die, time moves faster. It seems to take forever to become 18, When you're 30, you wonder what happened to your youth and when you become my age, years become like weeks and you find yourself thinking, "Didn't I just paint the foundation and shed last summer?" and after serious contemplation, you realize that it was 11 years ago you painted anything. To me, New Year's Day happened just a few days ago.

As for 2012, even though I had a major operation and I gained way too much weight recovering from it, the year vanished so quickly, only the 7 inch scar on my gut proved that 2012 ever happened at all.

For me, 2011 was the long year. Pretty much every day of that year, the weather was doing its best to relieve me of my house. There were at least 6 basement floodings, a tornado (unheard of in these parts) hurricanes, endless blizzards leaving 5 feet on snow on my roof to try to crush me and the Halloween storm that destroyed trees in my yard & knocked out power for a week, ruining all my groceries.

It was just an endless parade of shit from the sky that made it the longest year I can remember.
