I t's time to record the final Halloween show. Yes, I actually managed to make them this year. I wouldn't have managed it without Dave AuJus guest hosting a show at just the right time to give me an extra week to compile the playlists, so a big thank you goes out to him.

After a few adjustments to the final script, it's finally time to record the last of these shows. I'm starting late, late, late.

GTA 5 addiction is a sad thing indeed. You add to that the World Series and the Oct. 25 release of the final volume of the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 remake that was delayed for a month and you have a perfect storm of "things to distract one from making a Halloween Mad Music Show".

Fortunately, Halloween isn't until Thursday and I just may want to post a Halloween show on Halloween. Oh, horror of horrors! Go against the sick, twisted Millennial "tradition" of celebrating everything a week before the actual day? No, not that!

Too bad. This is my blog and I say fuck this idiocy of observing holidays days before the actual day. The exception, of course, are the holiday 'seasons' - Xmas and more and more, Halloween. They take a time of year full of bad weather and days with less daylight and make something more out of them. Just ignore the blatant commercialism.

But fireworks at the end of June for convenience's sake is still fucked. I'll bet the Chinese don't do this for Chinese New Year. But I digress....

This third show is full of classics & favorites and I hear you say, "Ho hum, this is the same crap we hear every year." In the other shows, they give a bit more variation & newness, but this particular episode is for listening to the familiar and there's still an audience for that, I'm thinking. And it's true that other shows can crank out more quantity of it all, but I'm a bit old and tired and this is all that I can manage. You have to "do what you can with what you have where you are".

R.I.P. Lou Reed. (I was somewhat tempted to add "the Reed/Metallica song "Mistress Dread" www.madmusic.com/song_details.aspx?SongID=46817 to the show, but it's all metal and no Halloween. And I hate speed metal. I think everyone my age does. It's the law or something. Perhaps one of the others can play it.)

Enjoy MMS-177 when it's posted. And remember, Xmas is coming. 4 shows. I don't know what the hell I'm going to call them yet.

October 8 - 8 pm EDT

T his year, there will actually be 3 full 2 hour Mad Music Shows. I'm making one now, the second was completed last spring and the third awaits more classics to be added. It would be nice if there were more requests, but I can manage.

My biggest concern is being able to outdo last year's single show. It came out rather well and I don't want to do the whole quantity over quality thing. It's the attention to detail and the anal retentive insistence that these things not sound slapped together that makes them take so long to make. I should really stop making such a fuss and just work out new ideas and see what flies.

The titles, well, there had to be titles. Just calling them "Halloween I" and such seemed lame, so I decided to go all otaku nerd and name them after incantations in a particular anime. Of course, to know which one make you an otaku as well.

"Darkness beyond twilight.
Deeper than the deepest night.
King of Darkness, who shines like gold upon the Sea of Chaos.
I call upon thee, and swear myself to thee.
Let the fools who stand before me be destroyed by the power you and I possess!..."

That's where it stops, though. The segments don't need titles as this is all holiday music. The same will apply to the Xmas shows when they arrive.

Dave AuJus has sent me some sfx, I've chosen some creepy bgm and I'm ready to record. With any luck, it'll come out all right and Wayne can add the new show to the 24/7 stream mix currently playing old Halloween MMS episodes. You have been listening to them, yes? You're missing out otherwise.

There are at least 5 parodies of Walk On The Wild Side to choose from. Not Halloween related, but perhaps suitable for a different show/segment.

I think he was talking about a stream of bat spit, or possibly the king. Not vampires. There are those who say that royals are vampires in their own way, but that's another issue.

It sounds like something George Bernard Shaw was heard to say

"You shine out like a shaft of gold when all around is darkness"
