Song Lyrics: |
Are You Lonesome Tonight? (words & music by Roy Turk and Lou Handman)
Are you lonesome tonight, do you miss me tonight? Are you sorry we drifted apart? Does your memory stray to a brighter sunny day When I kissed you and called you sweetheart? Do the chairs in your parlor seem empty and bare? Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there? Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again? Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight?
I wonder if you're lonesome tonight You know someone said that the world's a stage And each must play a part. Fate had me playing in love you as my sweet heart. Act one was when we met, I loved you at first glance You read your line so cleverly and never missed a cue Then came act two, you seemed to change and you acted strange And why I'll never know. Honey, you lied when you said you loved me And I had no cause to doubt you. But I'd rather go on hearing your lies Than go on living without you. Now the stage is bare and I'm standing there With emptiness all around And if you won't come back to me Then make them bring the curtain down.
Is your heart filled with pain, shall I come back again? Tell me dear, are you lonesome tonight? (Marcus Tee) |

Done.
--- Halfshell:
Can the date be changed to 1969 for this particular page?
|

There are many different releases of the song, from other concerts to bootlegs.
The "bald head/wish you had hair" version is from Aug 26, 1969, Las Vegas. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGhmn2i4DBU&ytbChannel=gili66 Can the date be changed to 1969 for this particular page? --- davidtanny:
In the version I played, the line "Do you gaze at your doorstep and picture me there?" is replaced with "Do you gaze at your bald head and wished you had hair?" then Elvis goes into a laughing frenzy and can't sing most of the lines in the second verse.

Judging by my resources: Elvis Presley: A Life in Music - The Complete Recording Sessions; by Ernst Mikael Jorgensen "The Are You Lonesome Tonight (Laughing Version)" is from Las Vegas, August 1969. The version here is the same one. There is an unedited version with the lines "14 years right down the drain" but it is the same one. There is also a version from 1977 from "Elvis in Concert" recorded from Indiana from his last concert tour and last televised special where Elvis fucks up the spoken parts in the middle of the song. When it comes the anything "Elvis", I have the knowledge and resources.

Fixed. The other page had a slightly longer version (by a few seconds - Elvis says a few words after the song), so I replaced the mp3 with the superior one.

|
song ID 1100 is the same song.

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks for the info! I didn't think the Gorbachev story held water, at least not without causing some kind of international incident for making fun of another nation's leader
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d I think DrD has been very consistent in using this version (.56% uncertainty).
--- Bob Guest:
All because I was curious about which "laughing" version this was, since a few live versions exist, with different degrees of laughing.

In response to RedHawk's question, Wikipedia suggests it was some random bald guy in the audience, but Elvis saw him after the initial joke.

fiogf49gjkf0d Another aspect of the mp3s I've no direct control over. Grrrrmmmm....
Need an edit page for all areas of this. Or if there already is one, I need access to it.

fiogf49gjkf0d The "Play Sample" links to the wrong song sample.

|
fiogf49gjkf0d Just curious, does anyone know why he made the comment he made that set him off? My mom heard from somewhere that he was performing for Gorbachev or something, but that just doesn't sound right to me. Was it just some random bald guy in the audience?
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d The songs seems longer than 1:07.
Incidentally, the "laughing version" was recorded live, there was no studio alteration to it. Charlie Hodge, one of the backup singers, would clown around and make faces and try to make Elvis crack up. Sometimes, it worked better than others.
