Good question.
...I was afraid this might happen. How did Eddie Murphy put it? Give someone a rope and they think they're a cowboy. Or less PC words to that effect.
As of right now, there is a very short list of reasons non-dementia pages exist around here.
1. Dr. Demento played it in the '80s. His radio station made him play mundane crap in his show then and this site keeps a record of all he plays because it was a Dr. D fansite in the beginning.
2. BGM. We credit and have pages for bgm because Cthulhu forbid that uncredited music ever gets heard on our shows. The lawyers have already come after Wayne for uncredited photos & downloadable Dr. D shows. I'm trying to stop them from getting to him by suing for uncredited bgm. They'll do it if they can get away with it. Let's not let them.
3. Other shows play them. In the latest site update, everything must be added to the archive or the artist (but not the song) vanishes from the playlist. This is a horrible idea as both David Tanny and I play non-dementia from time to time either for the sheer hell of it or because it fits a theme of some kind. Consequently, some of our show playlists are now shot full of empty spaces because we didn't add non-dementia artists to the archive...which was the right thing to do....
There are one or 2 other reasons, but those are the big ones. When the time arrives in January when show making doesn't completely fill my time, I'm taking a butcher knife to some of the mundane crap hereabouts. There are reasons we have to have certain song pages as listed above, but there's no excuse for other things as you've pointed out.
Some editor guy should start merging pages or something...when there are no 3 hour Xmas shows to be made, that is.
