| The song's subject matter is DashCon, a Tumblr-themed convention that took place just outside of Chicago in 2014. The convention was fraught with problems before it even started: their IndieGoGo campaign failed to make its goal, and Tumblr insisted that the con change its name (it was originally to be called Tumbl-Con USA) to dispel any assumptions that the event was in any way officially connected to or endorsed by the site.
On the weekend of the convention, it was apparent from Day 1 that the event was poorly planned and under-attended. An alleged surprise demand from the hotel for up-front payment resulted in convention organizers informing attendees that the con would have to be shut down if they did not immediately raise $17,000-- which they somehow did (resulting in the impromptu rendition of "We Are The Champions" heard at the end of the song). But the problems were just beginning.
On Day 2, the cast of 'Welcome To Night Vale' walked out after a payment dispute (they and other guests of honor had also been informed that their hotel bill would not be covered by the con, as previously promised). Those who had purchased tickets for the WTNV event were offered "an extra hour" in the con's kiddie-pool sized ball pit as compensation.
Sunday's closing ceremonies may as well have been a post-mortem, with the con organizers doing their best to explain the weekend's various fiascos, while seemingly trying not to accept too much of the blame for them.
