Ok, time for the explanation...again.
A while back, it occurred to us that we weren't crediting the bgm in the shows we make on the site. The Google ads on the site help generate the revenue to pay the yearly fees to ASCAP, BMI & SESAC, thus allowing us to play copyrighted material, including all the background music that we weren't crediting.
This was sorted out during the last site update. Now, both I and Dave AuJus, when he guest hosts The Mad Music Show, credit the bgm. As with many things we added to the site in recent years, this helps ward off the lawyers.
Technical stuff: You add the "BG" prefix before the titles/song & artistIDs on the edit playlist page & the bgm appears in purple on the show's playlist.
But all this leads to a problem. To credit it properly, the non-dementia songs need song pages like this one. As site editor, I find this irksome because this is supposed to be a database for dementia music alone. There was precedent for it, though.
This was originally a Dr. Demento fansite (until his lawyers insisted it not be) and every track played on his show is listed here - including the non-dementia bollocks his radio station made him play on his show in the '80s.
If that rubbish needs to be part of this site, then these bgm pages do as well - even if only for a bit of legal protection.
We encourage all show makers to do this, even if only to help Wayne keep his site.
