fiogf49gjkf0d Almost done.
Oddly enough, for a show that was supposed to be just an hour, I find myself tacking on more at the end now to make the show longer.
For those few of you who give a rat's ass, you may be asking yourselves...
WHAT THE HELL IS TAKING SO LONG? How long does it take one old fart to make an hour long mp3?
It's taking so long because I keep screwing up the words I wrote down last week and I'm either re-doing them or just editing them out of the recording.
The disclaimer at the beginning about the profanity "you're past them now" has proved (mostly) prophetic. There's virtually no filth in the show. I will NOT promise shows in the future will be like this. In fact, you should make an attempt to not be offended by what I say in THIS show even though there's little profanity. I don't screw around in this outing.
I'm completing the last segment. Done soon.
______________________________________________________________
One last thing. If you listen to the show (and after all this, I hope you do) and notice later on that I'm playing fast and loose with the playlist, know that some old cancerous fart is editor hereabouts and has at least some idea of what he's doing.
It will all be set right after the pitiful little gag (guys full of cancer meds & painkillers can only manage really lame-ass gags) has run its course.
What gag, you ask? You're going to have to listen to the show to find out.

fiogf49gjkf0d Today I found that I completely forgot how Audacity functioned & spent much of the afternoon relearning what I forgot last year. And yes, I have the newest version.
So the hard part's over and much of the actual recording's done. Which means it will all be easier next time. Assuming next time's not Halloween. When I finally do post it, you may notice the bgm's quite loud. I couldn't decide if it was a good balance to nullify the vocal badness or if it was just a bit loud. So I just went with it. You can decide for yourself. Excessive pickiness is keeping me from being content with what parts are already complete.
One of the completed segments is uploaded to the site and is inside a nice new show folder- just to make sure I remembered how to do that. Nothing is posted yet, though. Completion tomorrow.

fiogf49gjkf0d Note: It's just a little hour show. The only way to hammer some interest into it is to make it a little unpredictable. Weirdness is mandatory for shows like this and therefore...a bit banal. A herculean effort has to be made to make the flagship show (or one of its 4 incarnations, anyway) not suck, yes?
Sooooo.... I looked at the line of thingies I'd strung together on Audacity and I said, "Not good enough". So I tacked on some things that won't be appearing on the playlist. Just a couple. And screwed with the format a bit. Just to spice it up.
The rest of you do this, right? I'm just catching up. Although it's just an hour show, it'll be posted when I'm happy with it. Damn anal perfectionism...

fiogf49gjkf0d Update:
Old script: redone.
Cute/annoying WAVS: snagged from Wayne's WAV site. Got them all.
I decided I need bgm (I've got hours of it) so I'll sound less like crap. It's just an hour show, but I insist on sounding 'less like crap'. The only thing that can sound like that are the sfx of actual crap. ...Maybe in a crap themed episode. And we've done that.
All is prepared. I'm ready to record and...what? I have two more days? And it's going to rain on both of them? Perfect 'stay inside & record' weather? Well ok then...
The next show will have more contemporary songs. Maybe...possibly...

fiogf49gjkf0d Production began on this show yesterday.
The playlist is complete (it was completed in 1983, but I had to type it again somewhere), mp3s are assembled. Old script is old. It needed updating for this new concept.
There's a bit of profanity. Not too much. Just like my shows before. A disclaimer starts things off.
Still debating whether I want to do cute, smartass things in this first show for quite a while. Maybe I should just leave out the bgm & audio boings and just crank it out just to have it out. Right now, the Firesign Theater is in my head saying, "It looks nice out" "You ought to leave it out".
In case you were really, REALLY bored and were wondering, the "C" in the title denotes the fourth attempt to make show 161. It's there so my MS Word/Excel won't complain that the document titles are the same when I change show ideas but leave the numbers the same.

fiogf49gjkf0d Thanks, Pete.
The Russians/Eastern Europeans don't just attack this site. They also comparatively recently bought out control of state contracted 'private transportation' companies in my area. I destroyed a previous car years ago attempting to get home from a distant hospital and won't try it again, so I have to rely on them when going to the city. Terrifying. They defraud Medicaid by doing low speed crashes in their taxis and then making fraudulent claims. Lots of them. It happened to me once when I was with them. Wasn't hurt.
That's why I try to make it to hospitals myself. And why I said 'if I survive the trip this week'.
Maybe I should shut the hell up about the Russians and their more nefarious activities.... Dead men tell no tales. Ah, now we're back to the pirate theme. Arrrr...
The aforementioned mix tape contains dementia not just from 1983, but from all eras before it, since these tapes were recorded from Dr. D's show & my favorites were put on the mix tape. It's essentially my idea of the best of several months of the show (or longer, depending on how picky I was at the time) strung together. This particular one directly followed the 1982 Xmas tape.
I know. Some of this show should be about Memorial Day, but I'm trying to get just one made here with minimal fuss.

fiogf49gjkf0d The spring cleaning is as done as it's going to be for now. Toilet is fixed. Lawn is mowed. 4 months of dirty dishes are washed. Filthy house is vacuumed. Other things to focus on now. Surviving the trip to see one of my specialists comes to mind. The trip nearly killed me last time - www.madmusic.com/readblog.aspx?id=4984
If I survive the trip this week, this completed show (actually completed in 1983) will become a priority for this weekend - having now finally cleared everything else from my 'to do' list. I mentioned "completion in May" at the bottom of this page. This is the time I was going on about.
...I know. No reaction until I actually cough up a show or two, yes? And they call me cynical.

fiogf49gjkf0d Feeling better...pain subsiding. More importantly, I'm seeing clearly again and my thinking isn't nearly as hazy as it has been the last few months since I had that nasty fall. Falls kill people like me. George Burns might still be alive if he....nahhhhh!
I was really reaching there.
The point is, Spring is here, my toilet has been repaired (after months of frozen stinky wintry Lincoln logs), I'm getting my crap filled house in order and if there are no more brushes with death on the highway (or anywhere else) as described in my blog, www.madmusic.com/readblog.aspx?id=4984 there will be new flagship show goodness soon.
Even if I do nothing but an intro and then go PPPPPPPPTTTH!!! - and add to it bit by bit. Just to have made the effort will get things started again.
It might be this show, it might be something else completed a while ago. When you see the black banner on the homepage, you'll know the Mad Music Show's back.
Only this time, it'll be sooner rather than later.
And no, I'm not full of sh*t again. My voice is greatly recovered - if it could have been considered any good before...

fiogf49gjkf0d Script solution #46 - Long ago ('70s - '80s), I made tapes taken directly from Dr. D's show. Maybe some of you did, too. I then made mix tapes of my favorites. Until the bastard radio station cancelled his show, I managed to make quite a few tapes all of which now reside in my PC & iPod.
Last year, after Xmas (before my health went south again), I was planning to make whole Mad Music Shows out of these tapes, making the bothersome choosing of songs for the season or topical themes unnecessary for a while. The songs would be considered old by some, but they'd still be good.
I'm sure that David Tanny has already done this at some point, but this would be useful to make shows in my present condition. No need to go mad with the DJ-ing if everyone knows what to expect.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Go for it.
|
|
fiogf49gjkf0d Would it be so terrible if a minimum of DJ-ing was used for a comparatively vanilla show?
This would not be the high concept show originally conceived of for 161. That will have to wait until I get a bit better. This would have the usual strange topic never done before (well, maybe once or twice), but it would have a minimum of words with very few smartass remarks and no bgm backing it except for the main title tune at the open & end...and the vocal would be worse than usual.
I think if I made a very low-impact, minimal difficulty show, I might just get away with an hour...possibly 2...but probably one. I just want to make a show again.
Topic? .....maybe "Ye Olde Daze", songs made before 1960, no, 1955. Before the so-called 'rock era'. An hour of this would be all that most could stand. Not me. These would be songs I knew all too well. Topic's not too original, but screw it.
Someone remind me if I've done this before - and the podcast doesn't count as this will be a Mad Music Show (or Hour). The Rule: Podcast ideas that can only use CC songs are made to bloom into great big Mad Music Shows.
Requests for it are ok as long as they're from before 1955.

Completion in May
