Dr. Hook did do an album of Silverstein songs- including that one. It was called Sloppy Seconds (1972) and featured 'Cover of the Rolling Stone'; www.themadmusicarchive.com/album_details.aspx?AlbumID=6405
a song which stuck in my head for quite a bit of that year, as I recall.
They were prolific interpreters of Shel's material. Everything's got to come from somewhere...
