Nobody would believe me if I told them I had been writing a song about the Jungle Cruise at Disneyland. I was hopeful when the title of Weird Al's song came to light. I thought "Nah, it couldn't be about the Disneyland Jungle Cruise, of all things". Then I heard the song, Skipper Dan. I absolutely love it! I think it is my favorite Weird Al song. But now what do I do with mine? Even though mine centers around a completely different story, some of the references are the same. People would think I'm just ripping off Weird Al. Oh well, that's what I get for procrastinating on getting this song finished. It's probably best that I just scrap it and start on something else.

Go for it Jake. Who knows, your song might actually be funnier. (Some people here don't think Skipper Dan is all that funny)

I wonder how many rumpled pieces of paper that Weird Al has made when he seen that a parody idea got used before he got to it, or that a song was parodied a few visible times before he got around to it--it seems he does not go into the full writting of the parody until he gets permission to use the music.

If your story is kind of a reverse angle on the story, it might be interesting. Like the family that comes back to the ride every year, and that while dad and mom now know the Skipper's narrative by heart, the kids take it in as a new experience each year.

I'd encourage you to complete it. Can't have enough jokes about "Getting it in the end" or "the backside of water."

I'm interested to hear your version.
