Thanks Max and Stavro. Yes it does sound a lot like Holst's Mars.

Yay! Pirates!

And this music sounds a lot like Mars from The Planets. I suspect it's supposed to.

..Good improvement there. And to add to it all, MMS-129 (Pirates) has just been posted.

Thanks Terri and Stavro.

I have never been big on anime although I did enjoy Technoman cartoons as a kid. I agree that American animation has not kept up with the Japanese.

We used to be able to crank out a decent cartoon or 2 in America when I was a kid. Then 'executive meddling' came along and it all turned into crap. Around that time, I saw Gigantor, Kimba The White Lion and Speed Racer and thought it was great that someone was still making decent cartoons somewhere. It was considered a dead art form by then. Why watch a cartoon when there were paintings of soup cans to be seen and 'experimental substances' to be experienced? "Wow, man...dig those funky colors..."

A decade or so later, I saw Gatchaman, Uchuu Senkan Yamato, and Captain Harlock and realized that those guys out there in Tokyo were serious about this 'cartoon thing' while the idiots who ran our studios were making "new" network cartoon shows using 30+ year old WB toons. They couldn't find guys who could draw a decent picture of Bugs Bunny anymore. Or they couldn't justify the expense of making new quality animation to their stockholders.

Maybe one day, the craptacular toons in America will catch up to the quality that anime was in the mid 70s. Nah, too much cash at stake. Meanwhile, Harlock makes for a fine piratey banner.
