fiogf49gjkf0d Cool Edit Pro (any version) or Adobe Audition 1.x, 2.x, or 3.0 will not work on Vista or Win7 due to Microsoft knowing what is best for you. They have removed support for direct hardware access by programs, and done away with WDM audio.
If you want to run the Cool Edit type editor on Vista or 7, you need to upgrade to Adobe Auditon 4.0 or newer, with ASIO support.
HOWEVER... Some people report they CAN get Cool Edit 2.0 to work with certain sound cards. See this thread for more info, and give it a try...

Keep in mind that this article is a couple of years old, and Microsoft updates may have completely broken this by now. I just gave up and went with Audition 4.5.
