From Ullman's 1983 album of playful, '60s style dance tunes, "You Broke My Heart in 17 Places". (Stavro Arrgolus) |
Kirsty's original version never made the British charts because of a strike taking place at the time that derailed record distribution.
For the kiddies, "records" were those black, round things you put on old fashioned "turntables" and put needles on to listen to. Ha! The screwy things we did in the old days! (Stavro Arrgolus) |
Ullman's tongue-in-cheek remake of the 1979 Kirsty MacColl song. Her biggest pop hit. (Stavro Arrgolus) |

Song Lyrics: |
You've been around for such a long time now Oh, maybe I could leave you but I don't know how And why should I be lonely ev'ry night When I can be with you oh, yes, you make it right
And I don't listen to the guys who say That you're bad for me And I should turn you away 'Cause they don't know about us And they've never heard of love
I get a feeling when I look at you Wherever you go now, I wanna be there too They say we're crazy but I just don't care And if they keep on talking still they get nowhere
So I don't mind if they don't understand When I look at you and you hold my hand 'Cause they don't know about us And they've never heard of love
Why should it matter to us If they don't approve We should just take our chances While we've got nothing to lose
Baby, there's no need for living in the past Now I've found good loving; gonna make it last I tell the others don't bother me 'Cause when they look at you They don't see what I see
No, I don't listen to their wasted lines Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs 'Cause they don't know about us And they've never heard of love
No, I don't listen to their wasted lines Got my eyes wide open and I see the signs 'Cause they don't know about us And they've never heard of love (Stavro Arrgolus) |

fiogf49gjkf0d I have it as well. I waited until the vinyl was in the bargain bin for 99¢ as I'm such a miserly bastard. As far as music albums made by comedians go, it's seriously underrated and from what I've heard, Stiff didn't pay her nearly enough for the effort. But then, that was their policy for all their artists.

I bought this album when it first came out specifically for this tune. It reminded me of the Leslie Gore tunes of the 60's.

fiogf49gjkf0d Dead videos aren't much fun.
--- Stavro Arrgolus:
I sometimes add them, but for popular songs, even oldies, the copyright lawyers always zap them, so I usually don't bother as I almost always have to remove dead videos later.

That reminds me, after I make the new MMH tomorrow/this week, I'm going to have to go through the thousand+ videos and delete the dead ones yet again.

fiogf49gjkf0d This is how to fill out a damn song page, by the powers! ARRRR!
Of course, this song is one of those "borderline dementia" songs, so it just may find its way into a Mad Music Show with that theme. Or perhaps it already has...
