Ok, I tried a few things without success. There are now 2 ways we can deal with it. And one is stupefyingly dangerous. Since you said it was ok for a time after the merge and only later was this mess discovered suggests a programming bug. One of the few that got by us along with the friending bug.
This suggests option one would be best: Let Wayne fix the bug when he returns.
There is another option (keeping in mind I'm in a bed and pumped full of Cthulhu knows what right now).
There were only 3 songs for this artist, so these tunes can be replaced, yes? The potential solution then becomes: Create another Funky Butts artist page and merge the whole mess into it leaving only the new page. The artist should be spelled differently for our reference. It can always be fixed later.
This will either neatly separate everything or blow it all to hell - leaving songs not on albums without an artist or possibly eliminating them entirely (low probability). If you noticed, the albums are still by their original artists, so it might not be that bad...famous last words.

Dave AuJus:
8788 Funky Butts, The was in the archive. DJ Darren's show added 12368 Funky Butt, The
I "Re-named" The Funky Butt to The Funky Butts
Seeing that there were only 3 songs I proceeded to merge 8788 with 12368 keeping the 8788.
Success 2 artists merged to 8788. I leave and come back an hour later and The Funky Butts have been linked to over 500 songs and everyone's playlists are screwed up.
