Nathan Detroit posted today on the Yahoo group that he has received an offer from a local station to do a show on Sunday nights. He's asked for encouragement before he makes a decision, so please post there and help get some crazy content back on the Northwest airwaves.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I joined the Yahoo group. Nathan says he wants to continue doing it. I'm guessing the best way to approach this is to give him some time to cool down a little and maybe get the itch to play the "flat friends," and then start chatting up KSER and Nathan to see if KSER would give Nathan a time slot on Sunday evenings (sounds like that's when he'd like to do it).
He'd be fine with doing it on a more traditional station but so many of them are centrally programmed from Somewhere Else these days that it's hard to get any local content.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d Maybe, although as I stated earlier they tend to do more homegrown stuff, with a few exceptions like BBC News. Plus if Nathan Detroit (Moskowitz' right-hand man) is taking over the time slot, they'd probably defer to him.
KEXP might be a better fit. They do a lot of "we play what we like" kind of things and actually have a national online audience, something rather rare for a station of its size.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d I donate $10 every other week to KSER, and in large part it was because of Madman Moskowitz (and a couple of other shows I really like). I've done this for over a year and have never asked for a pledge drive premium in return. As soon as I heard about Bob's passing I wrote the station manager and asked if I could please get a copy of the tribute show. I haven't heard back but I'll let you know if I do.
Joe, do you mean that Nathan is going to carry on with the show? That's wonderful news if so!

Fortunately, KSER streams all of its programming, so go to KSER.org and click on "Listen Live" Saturday afternoon at noon Pacific Time and fondly remember the Madman - while you can. Good ol' reliable Nathan Detroit's going to make sure of it.
It's a good thing I recorded what I could of the Madman. Sadly, I didn't get a good capture of the "tribute show" last week. My stream recorder has been flaking out on me recently.
Radio stations may change their format, but they couldn't chase away the Madman. A sip of "Root Beer (Rag)" in his honor, please, as he heads "South".

One radio station would close or change format, and he'd find another one to do his show on. One afternoon, I was sleeping, and I woke up and turned on the radio. Moskowitz said "--and call now to get free tickets." Still not fully awake, I called, and that's how I got to see Kinky Freeman at the Backstage in Ballard. Artis the Spoonman opened for him. I got to meet Moskowitz and his wife Gorgeous Rabbit, at the show.

This is completely the worst thing that's happened since Hackinbush died. Moskowitz was one of the staples of my weekly listening. I'd listen to the show on the long bus ride to work or back. He wasn't nearly as polished as Dr. Demento but he clearly loved the music and had a good time on the air.
I have a bunch of Moskowitz shows on my computer dating back to at least early 2005, maybe earlier. I'll have to start digging through them.

Once in a lifetime there comes along a musical work so all-encompassing, so overwhelming, so absolutely amazing that one can scarcely speak on the subject. But i'm here to talk about Art Paul's BEST OF CD. One of the first description I can give you is, "annoying." This is because my family (one wife, one boy aged 4 years and one girl aged 2) are constantly singing or humming some song from this CD. We love it and that annoys some people. That's OK with us. We first got turned on to Art Paul when we heard "Have a Peanut Butter Sandwich" on MUSIC WITH MOSKOWITZ in the Seattle area. We've never turned back. Also, Art? My son's favorite song is Pink Pants. He sings it all day long.
So with gratitude I owe Madman and maybe I think we should have a mad music radio show for him sometime ?

I sure hope there are fan recorded airchecks of his show around so that he can be remembered for time to come.

fjrigjwwe9r2threads:MessageText fiogf49gjkf0d When I first moved to Seattle in 1986, Dr. Demento was playing on KJET, but they stopped carrying him pretty soon afterward. Boy, was I happy Madman Moskowitz came along! It was particularly nice that he played local humor, like "The Aroma from Tacoma". As his obituary says, he had to move from station to station often when they changed formats, and I was unable to hear him at his latest venue, which was a low-power one in Everett, WA.
