Topic: I don't leave home without my pancreas

fiogf49gjkf0d You may have noticed I haven't been around for a few days. I've been spending most of that time hooked up to machines and getting poked in the arm in my local hospital while they try to figure out why my pancreas isn't doing what a pancreas is supposed to do.
It certainly isn't my idea of a vacation... my gut feels like my internal organs were run through a blender. Thank God for morphine! Actually, the morphine isn't helping completely. Once they added some other wonder drug called torodol, things started to look better... and my dreams have really been entertaining. (I should be taking notes, cause I can use new material for future songs.)
I'm not sure when I'll be able to return home. Today was the first time I was able to venture out to the patient lounge and find their internet computer. I was really hopeing for a connection in my room, but that hasn't happened yet. But if the connection speed is anything like what I'm getting here I might not have enough time to get online before I'm discharged.
BTW.... Who ever came up with the ridiculous idea that hospital beds were supposed to be comfortable?

Final stage of my medical problem got taken care of this week. Had to wait for the pancreas to heal, then the doctor tacked the gall bladder. Just my luck, it was infected big time. Thankfully I had a great doctor on the case, although I did have to spend another nights days in hospital... This time in the ICU department. I'm home now, but don't expect me to make any sudden moves for the next couple weeks.

I am grateful that my doctor has relaxed my diabetic restrictions for a while... but I do have one major obstacle to overcome in the coming weeks.
My good friend and fellow filker/demented artist, Downtown Freddy Brown, is getting married in just a few weeks. Anybody who knows him knows how much he enjoys food. I fear the menu at the reception will be a reflection of his love for food.... the worse for you the better.
On the plus side, I lost twenty pounds. (Now if only I can find a way to keep my pants from falling off.)

Diets are always difficult to adjust to, but hopefully it will help you out until your next surgery. Hope everything goes well.

fiogf49gjkf0d Glad you're back at home Bob. Get well soon. Enjoy that bed of yours, and try to enjoy the celery & water, or whatever they'll still let you eat.

fiogf49gjkf0d They let me out today.... with a plan to come back in a few weeks for gall bladder surgery. While I wait, I have to stick to an ultra low fat diet. So a dietician came around and told me what I can and cannot eat. Now, late last year I was told I am diabetic, and that also leaves me with a list of foods I can and cannot eat. So what I'm left with is.... not much of anything.
At least I can finally sleep in my own bed!

I guess you heard I was back in the hospital again, with an attack bigger than the first one. I had an MRI done yesterday, which showed that I did have a gall stone, which caused the pancreas infection. That stone has passed, so I'm not likely to have another attack. They are working on getting me eating properly again and then will send me home with an appointment to come back for surgery in 4 to 6 weeks.

fiogf49gjkf0d Today I'm finally home. Thanks for all your kind words. I'm not yet completely recovered, but at least now I'm in an environment conducive to a complete recovery.
They told me I have chronic pancreatitis. I've had it for a dozen or so years, but there were always factors working against a proper diagnosis. Apparently, a blood test can show the presence of enzymes in the blood consistent with pancreatitis. Then there's the CT scan. This time around, they finally got both to agree.
So once I got home I headed straight to bed. It was great to finally sleep someplace that responded properly to my body. Next thing I did was head to the washroom for a good crap. Sorry if I offend the more sensitive readers, but there's something about a hospital stay that throws basic body functions into a tailspin. (Being starved for almost a week didn't help matters either) But today was the first real decrapifying I've had in a week.
Next thing I've done is is come here. It's taking me some time to read through everything.... but I should be done by bedtime.

fiogf49gjkf0d I have to deal with that more and more often. Like last month. Scan this, X-ray that, more pills, more blood tests..oh, they love those blood tests. And if you don't go to the toilet right after the procedure, they insist on sticking a catheter up you. No fun. I think they do it just to be sadistic.
Hospital people have this hardass, all business air about them that's always been uncomfortable to deal with. All I can tell you is go home at the first opportunity. The hospital is no place to get better. And watch your valuables. My shirt was stolen when I had the throat operation. Hope things are better over in your area.

fiogf49gjkf0d Bob - Feel better soon...As for the comfort of hospital beds, does it fold you in half upon pressing a button? If not then the button is not working correctly...It's that healthful exercise thing they talk about...
