Hey y'all, just got back from a very long weekend break, and by break, I mean almost broken arms, broken noses, etc.
It was a weekend seminar / camp for karate senseis (instructors), with both day sessions starting at 6:30 am, through to 4:30 pm.
Our Senior Sensei decreed that Saturday was to be a grading day, and of the 35 there, 2 were elegible for grading to shodan-ho (provisionary black belt), not me I thought, I have let my own training slip due to my teaching, and felt that I was not ready.
But late in the day, after already being through a grueling basics and Kata session, our senior stepping in front of me with his sparring gear on, I thought, ohh no, my life flashed before my eyes, and it began.
45 minutes later, with a blood splattered clothing (from a blood nose), and a body wracked with bruises, he grinned, hugged my, and we ended the day.
All through the day, I kept saying to myself, for God's sake, you're 62, you way too old for this, everybody here is at least 15 years younger than you, get real, take up another hobby, stamp collecting for example.
But the moment my name was called, and to stand up in front of my peers including 15 other black belts to recieve my own black belt felt good, all the pain went away.
The sunday session was like a dream, running stricktly on adrenalin, our bodies stiff and sore, aching limbs, we went through another session, this time only lasting two & half hours, before lunch, and going home.
Now I know what to expect, and I can relax in the knowledge that I have at least 2 years to prepare myself for my next grading level, to that of Shodan (first dann).
Alex.

Thanks, a Tae Kwon Do group were holding a tournament in the same venue that we were holding a tournament, recently, and we had fun practicing with them,.
Although the styles are different, we go on well together, and helped each other with our training.

Keep up the training and hopefully looking at black belt in the coming years.

Congratulations on your belt ranking. You have done well, sir.

I am Jmanforever, and my style is Tae Kwon Do. I have many miles left to travel before I am near your level.

No, you're not too old.
