It's effing scary how relevant this fun little tune has become. If anything, the world today is even more crackers than when I first heard this song at the end of 1980. At the time, Idle's line about "fools and idiots sitting on the trigger" was just a cynical Cold War stab, but today, the trigger really is sat on by genuine idiots chosen by no one....just like in China. Psychotic trigger happy idiots...just like in China. If only they would be "always friendly and ready to please". No such luck.
Maybe, all things considered, learning a little Chinese isn't such a bad idea, considering the way things are going. All together: Wo ai
Zhong guo ren...

Population update: as of 8/8/08, 1.3 billion Chinese, instead of only 900 million. (Tim P. Ryan) |
Posted here is the "Contractual Obligation Album" version. The "Monty Python Sings" version has the same lyrics with different background sound effects. (Stavro Arrgolus) |
The lyrics to the Chinese verse: "Wo ai Zhong guo ren. Wo ai Zhong guo ren. Wo ai Zhong guo ren. Ni hao ma. Ni hao ma. Ni hao ma. Zhaijien.", roughly translates to- "I like Chinese. I like Chinese. I like Chinese. How are you? How are you? How are you? Goodbye!" "Ni hao" is also a general greeting, like "hello". It's a good idea to learn it now.... (Stavro Arrgolus) |

Song Lyrics: |
The world today seems absolutely crackers With nuclear bombs to blow us all sky high There's fools and idiots sitting on the trigger It's depressing and it's senseless and that's why...
I like Chinese I like Chinese They only come up to your knees yet they're always friendly and they're ready to please
I like Chinese (cork popping) I like Chinese ("liquid pouring into glass" sound) There's 900 million of them in the world today You'd better learn to like them That's what I say
I like Chinese I like Chinese They come from a long way overseas but they're cute and they're cuddly and they're ready to please
I like Chinese food The waiters never are rude Think of the many things they've done to impress There's Maoism, Daoism, I Ching and chess
So I like Chinese (tap dancing sound) I like Chinese I like their tiny little trees Their Zen, their ping-pong, their yin and yang-ese
I like Chinese thought The wisdom that Confucius taught If Darwin is anything to shout about The Chinese will survive us all without any doubt
So, I like Chinese I like Chinese They only come up to your knees yet they're wise and they're witty and they're ready to please
All together.. Wo ai Zhong-guo ren Wo ai Zhong-guo ren Wo ai Zhong-guo ren Ni Hao Ma? Ni Hao Ma? Ni Hao Ma? Zhaijien
I like Chinese I like Chinese Their food is guaranteed to please a fourteen, a seven, a nine and lychees
I like Chinese I like Chinese I like their tiny little trees Their Zen, their ping-pong their yin and yang-ese
I like Chinese..... (Stavro Arrgolus) |

If you're going to do it, you might as well do it right. Right? btw I don't know the language, so any corrections would be appreciated! (The extra speckles that were in the image before have now been fixed.)
