fiogf49gjkf0d Hey Nigel, great show, for me it was a case of Ohh, I remember that.
On the Herman' Hermits song, I'm Henry The VIII, I was comparing it to the copy I had, and there seems to be some variations in the two. On mine, the vocal of Herman seems younger, the instrumentals seem fuller, and at the end, my copy does not have the short guitar sting, and the 'yeah' on closer.
Is your copy a later recording?
On the Arnold Rimmer song, Although I enjoyed it, I think Howard Goodall should stick to writing, as Chris Barrie does a better version even though he is not a singer.
Alex.

fiogf49gjkf0d Hi Alex
Glad you enjoyed the show - watch out for "Hey Four-Eyes!!" later on this year.
The track came from a Greatest Hits of Herman's Hermits CD from EMI and doesn't say that any tracks have been re-recorded so I'm not sure.
I agree, Howard is a fantastic composer but a singer he ain't!!! One of these days I'll invest in some software to allow be to extract audio from DVDs, because I can't be bothered to keep hooking things up to get audio from DVDs.

fiogf49gjkf0d Hey Four Eyes! LOL.
I hate when you get a greatest hits package and it's not the original version. That seems fraudulent to me.

fiogf49gjkf0d So do I, now. Being the typical profiled Scotsman, back in my youth, I purchased a large number of very cheap box sets of compilation albums, the K-Tel type. All tracks are the original artists, but are made up of outtake and alternative recordings.
I haven't learnt, I still buy cheap.
Alex.

fiogf49gjkf0d Well, it just goes to show you only get what you pay for!!!
I always check Greatest hits CDs now to see if it has the disclaimer on it about tracks being re-recorded and if it does then I keep my money in my pocket (perhaps I'm a closet Scotsman!!!)

fiogf49gjkf0d Even worse, iTunes charges you the same 99 cents whether it's an original or a re-do. So sometimes it's not even a question of being cheap!

fiogf49gjkf0d One song that I am still not sure of which is the original is Lonnie Donegan's Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour.
Over the years I have heard many many versions, all done live, at least with this one, they are all good.

fiogf49gjkf0d I think that Lonnie's was a version of a song from the 20's or 30's called "Does Your Spearmint Lose Its Flavor" but I could be wrong, and I'm sure if I am then someone will put me right (please!!)
