The Mad Music Show #203 - October 31, 2016
Topic: Halloween III: Devil's Gonna Get You
This show is Explcicit

This week, the final Halloween show of the season, "Devil's Gonna Get You", the title of a Bessie Smith song that I sometimes play during Halloween season. Those who listen to this drivel regularly know that my final holiday show, be it for Halloween or Xmas, always brings you all your old favorites. I save them up for the last show and shovel them in with the holiday's new stuff & things that haven't been played for quite a while.

This show has 4 parts:

Show Facts:
Yes. I know. It took a year to post the final segment, making the show's final completion date 10/25/17. Because of the lateness, I got a bit experimental with the segment as well. It was hosted by "Consul Augustus Arrgolus", the ancient vampiric ancestor of all the characters on these shows. Because this segment was made retroactively, the old vampire could even snarkily warn the listener about the election that was upcoming at the time.

The delivery is a delicious combination of deadpan (clearly faked) cluelessness about the show & Halloween in general, unabashed bemusement about the whole thing and a whole other level of sarcasm, cynicism and denigration of the state of the modern world all put into perspective through Halloween alone. It's a good thing this character's not hosting any Xmas shows.

The final segment may be too snarky (even by MY standards) and subtle for some, but I had a scream making it.

As stated at the top of the show, John "The Cool Ghoul" Zacherle died on Thursday. He was 98...Bugger all! I should be so lucky. I'm not going to manage another 27 years. I should be fortunate to make it another 5.
Zacherle sends a 'Halloween Message' to you before the show starts and a rare B-side of his is heard in the first set.

Fun Fact: The only reason there's no sneakily inserted bonus track in this show is that, besides the final segment taking an entire year to post, said final segment ran almost 38 minutes.

That's excessive even for a show where a little extra is purposely built into every segment. Every one of these 2-hour shows generally run between 6 and 12+ minutes over 2 hours. Just because.

Another great show.  Several excellent songs I had not heard before.  Keep up the good work, when you can!

Is it my turn to do a show again? I'll start putting one together today. I am confused on the numbering. Who has MMS-211? How can I do MMH-213 if you haven't done MMS-212? I also have a podcast scheduled for later this month.

Stavro Arrgolus:

Really? This is the priority?

You do know that there's an entire Halloween show missing, right? Check the show list. MMS-157 isn't there. You should be more annoyed about that show than one segment of this one.

Many things came together to distract me from completing this show. A snowstorm that digging out of exhausted me for days (I'm still exhausted from that), important household "do or die" tasks that needed doing first, distractions from someone wanting to add this or that artist's albums - it's been endless.

Wayne made many shows during the holidays to keep the shows coming when I couldn't. I can't stop making new shows now. Show 212 is what I'm working on right now.

If Dave makes MMH-213 next week and other distractions cease for a while, this segment will get made. I might even have a whack at the missing show. I just need a breather from the other things for a bit.

Show 211 is Wayne's New Year's show. It was supposed to be out Sunday, but...

If it doesn't appear, then the very naughty show I'm assembling now will become show 211. If some of the distractions I mentioned stop, that show will be posted on schedule...not that there's a schedule or anything.

No pressure about making a show. Just helping me with those distractions is more than sufficient. As always, both Wayne and I thank you for all you do around here.

As it turns out, the Halloween show philosophy hasn't changed. Spooky hijinks in the 1st show, heavy holiday classics in the third. No screwing around. That's what I got when hearing the first 3 segments of this one.

Nothing was scripted for the 4th segment, so it'll have to be written. Since it's just one segment, it won't take forever. And since there's a new show today that Dave made, that buys me a couple of days to finish.

The problem? 2 of the songs in segment 4 match a show segment I just made - even to the point of having the same song begin it. Can't change it without risking copying songs. This segment will sound a bit repetitive if you've just heard my last show.

So just keep in mind that it a month, it won't make any difference. By then, it'll all be Santa & reindeer and sacrificing goats to Satan and...maybe not that last part.

Nice Job Stavro!

Thanks, Dave. I hope the new segment went over as well as all these great new fonts have. Maybe the bugs in these pages will get fixed soon as well.

I still don't know whether listeners want the frenetic pacing & antics of the other vampires or the more "D.J.-ish" deadpan snarking of "Consul Augustus".

Which style do they like more? No idea.
